Dr. Claramma Thomas is Associate Professor of Sociology and currently
the Head of the Department. She was awarded Ph.D from St. Teresas
College Ernakulam (MG University) , M.Phil from Mother Teresa
Womens University Kodaikanal and M.A and B.A, both with First Class
and First Rank, from St. Teresas College (Kerala University).Dr.
Claramma has been a regular Faculty in the Department of Sociology,
St. Teresas College since 1981 and Teaching Assistant (under COHHIP),
from June 1979 to December 1980. Her research interests include
Gender Studies, Family and Kinship and Community Studies. Her
doctoral thesis was on “Work-Life Balance- a Sociological Study of
Women Professionals in Kerala”. She was involved in the syllabus
preparation and allied activities BA Degree (Sociology)CBCSS,MG
University, Kottayam, 2009.She is the Chairperson, Board of
Examiners, Final M.A. Sociology, MG University since 2008 and also
Chairperson, Board of Question Paper Setters in various universities.
She has served as member UG Board of Studies, MG University and as
visiting faculty to the Indo-American Exchange program students
under the Brethren Colleges Abroad Program of Cochin University and
to the School of Distance Education students of Mahatma Gandhi
University. Her research publications include, Women in dual roles-
Expectations and Challenges”(2008) and Exclusion of Women- the
interaction of Gendered Social Structure?(2010). She functions also as
Staff Advisor to various clubs and councils in the college
