Research
The Institution has always maintained a Research Culture and has taken up a number of minor and major research projects funded by UGC, DST, CIFT, ICAR and ICMR-AIMS. Research publications, Ongoing Research and Consultancy have added to the professional development of the Faculty.
Commitment to basic long term research as the foundation for future development is the concern of the Institution. In research, there is progressive sharing of academic knowledge and resources to create new resources. It has established academic and research linkages with National and International Universities, Governments and Industries.
- The institution has 6 Full Fledged Research Departments.
- 24 Research Guides are actively involved in Research; among them 10 are present Faculty members, 9 are retired Faculty members.
- During the post accredited period 13 research scholars were awarded Ph. D degree - Botany - 6, Home Science - 5, Sociology – 2.
- The Institution has completed 3 major and 15 minor research projects and at present there are 3 major and 20 minor ongoing research projects funded by UGC and other Agencies.
- Dr. Anu Gopinath, Department of Chemistry participated and presented a paper in the Second Inter Governmental Oceanographic Commission WESTPAC training Course in China from 8th to 11th June 2011.
- Two of our Faculty Members Dr Latha Nair R. and Dr. Anu Gopinath are engaged in International Collaborative Research Programmes.
- Dr. Anu Gopinath has been selected for the Prestigious Post doctoral Commonwealth Scholarship, 2010.
- Five Faculty members are pursuing Collaborative Research Programmes at the State as well as National Level.
- Faculty Members of the Departments of English, French, Sociology, Botany, Home Science, Chemistry and Women Study Centre do Consultancy, free of charge.
Research Committee
A Research Committee has been Constituted to monitor, assist and evaluate the research activities. Its objectives are as follows:
- To screen the Research/ Project Proposals of the Institution and Faculty before forwarding it to the sponsoring agencies
- To assist in preparing the proposals for the conduct of seminars / workshops /conferences and forward it to the funding agencies
- The committee studies the importance and relevance of a course and its employability before introducing it
- It assists the coordinators of different departments in the allocation of UGC grants
- It undertakes periodic evaluation of various research activities of the entire Institution and its development programmes
- To motivate the prospective researchers to apply for major and minor projects
- Exchange of faculty to promote interdisciplinary research
