The X-mas sale organised by the Teresian Alumni Association at St Teresa's College on 23rd December, 2007 was a huge crowd-puller.This exhibition cum-sale happens only once a year, but everyone looks forward to it. Because its more than an expo. It's in fact a meeting ground for old friends and renewing friendships. I look forward to this fair as this is the time to meet old friends.Apart from temple jewellery,I have displayed hand-embroidered handkerchiefs and they are selling like hot cakes. I don't count on the profit. But the satisfaction you get when people pick up and appreciate something made by you is inexplainable, says Sudha Balachandran,a staff of the college. The expo is a platform for student-turned entrepreneurs. About 99 percent of housewives have no formal outlet to sell their products. This expo gives them the much needed publicity to prosper in their ventures. There were cushions, cushion covers, bedsheets, quilt covers, kitchen towels, mittens, aprons and more with embroidery and applique work. There were 71 stalls presenting various items like stitched kurtas, skirts, dry flowers, candles, saris, kidsclothing, jewellery, bags, Christmas decorations, shoes and food items. Some of the stalls were selling homemade chocolates, nutmeg and grape wine and a variety of pickles and jams.It was indeed a colourful fair which brought under one roof women who were not only glamorous but also creative and enterprising.
