WOMEN'S STUDY CENTER

              As part of jubilee project,'Women Empowerment and Training', the college decided to set up Women's Study Center to offer job-oriented courses and life skill development for women. In this connection, two courses were initiated in the year 2002,and the courses were  affiliated to Center of Continuing Education, Govt.of Kerala in the year 2007.

Our vision is to provide and equip women with skills and tools that will enable them to survive, thrive and succeed in today's highly competitive world.

We believe women need to learn new skills and technologies that will empower, enlighten and encourage them to be independent and successful in this dynamic and vibrant environment, where the opportunities are endless.

Our mission is to act as a facilitator in empowering women to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities available by making them skilled, independent, confident and aware so that they pursue excellence and distinguish themselves in their lives as well as becoming worthy and contributing members of the society.

Significant achievements of the Department:-

• Started a Diet Clinic in the campus in the year 2011.
• Organized an awareness programme on PAIN AND PALIATIVE CARE by Mr.Praveen.M.G, Palliative Care,  Kerala State Committee President for the staffs and students of the college.
• One day seminar ' Nutritional Awareness among Adolescents'  by Ms.Bulbin Jose, Registered Dietician, the Chief Dietician of the Lakeshore Hospital Ernakulam on 25^th March, 2011.
• Designed and constructed garments based on the theme Mathematics for the Department of Mathematics of the college in the year 2010.
• Conducted an exhibition cum sale of garments and accessories designed and constructed by the students of the department in the year 2010.
• Conducted an exhibition titled ' GREEN IS GOD' which displayed garments, accessories and other utility products made from reusable and waste materials emphasizing the importance of eco friendly products in the year 2010.
• A talk on ' Perspective in Nutrition and Dietetics' by Ms.Anu John, Chief Dietician, Medical Centre Hospital, Kochi in the month of October,2009.
• Conducted Fashion show for Gandhi Smaraka at Manorama Fiesta, International Stadium, Kochi in the year 2008.
• Seminar on ' Brief insight into the various aspects of Nutrition and Dietetics' by Ms.Sindhu.S, Chief Dietician, Medical Trust Hospital in  the month of May,2008.
• Designing and construction of folk dance costume for the M.G University  Youth Festival team of the college in the year 2008
• Conducts Final collection presentation as a Fashion show every year.

•            Member of Board of Subject Expert of Bachelor of Fashion Technology, M.G.University,  Appointed as an external examiner for BFT Examinations in various centres including  Off Campus Centre, Dubai.
•            Invited for syllabus restructuring of BFT (CBCSS), M.G.University, BSc.Home Science, Kerala University, BSc Fashion Designing, Kerala University, Certificate course in Tailoring, embroidery and needle work, Kerala Government Technical Education, Government of Kerala.
•      Member and Co-ordinator for the designing of syllabus of B.Sc. Apparel and Fashion Design, M.G.University.
•      Deputy Co-ordinator of B.Sc. Apparel and Fashion Design, M.G.University.
•            Functioned as on line consultant for Manorama online, and also a fashion columnist for Malayala Manorama, Deshabhimani.
•          Invited as a member in the interview panel of Le Mignon Pvt. Ltd., Kakkanad for the appointment of merchandisers and designers.
•       Appointed as the Subject Expert for the sanctioning of Bachelor of Fashion Technology Course in the colleges affiliated to M.G.University.
•       Functioned as Convenor in organising an International Seminar on "Art, Fashion, Language and Culture" conducted by Women's Study Centre, St. Teresas's College, Ernakulam on 28th and 29th of January 2013.

Surya.M.Kottaram:-

•         Appointed as a question paper translator for Certificate course in Food and Nutrition of IGNOU.
•          Assistant coordinator of IGNOU courses in the college.

Praveen Varma.K.J:-

•             Functioned as costume designer and creative director for various movies and ad films like Big B, Sagar Alias Jacky, Anwar, Tournament etc.
•             Functioned as a trend reporter in various news papers and T.V.Channels.
•             He is also a freelance designer.
•             Member of Board of Examinations of BFT, M.G.University 

Supriya Nair:-

2010-2011

FASHION DESIGNING

Ms. Lekha Sreenivas conducted classes for small scale enterpreneurs of Karuvellipady at Rameshwaram Temple hall on February, 2011 on advanced pattern making techniques in association with KVMS, Kochi.

CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

I. Conducted counselling classes for rural women, mothers of infants and preschoolers, adolscent girls and anganwadi workers, assessed the nutritional status of the audience , conducted nutrition exhibition, cookery demonstration at ICDS, HMT Colony, Kalamassery. 

The objective was to give awareness about health and hygiene, prevention of lifestyle disorders such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, underweight, vitamin A and iron deficiency on 7^th October 2010.

 ·         Created awareness about health and nutrition among women and anganwadi workers through entertainments like fashion show based on nutrition theme, skit, tablo, mime, kitchen orchestra, games and cookery demonstration etc.

II. Assessed the nutritional status of children below 5 years of St. Teresa's School - Kindergarten section on 24^th September, 2010. Students distributed growth charts and height-weight charts for continual growth assessment of children.

III. Conducted health awareness programme for the women and children of ICDS, Mattancherry on 19^th August, 2010 to give awareness about health and hygiene, prevention of health problems of preschoolers and infants, importance of immunisation, various weaning foods and diet during pregnancy and lactation through various entertainment programmes.

 ·         Created awareness about health and nutrition among women and anganwadi workers through entertainments like fashion show based on nutrition theme, skit, tablo, mime, kitchen orchestra, games and cookery demonstration etc.

2009-2010

FASHION DESIGNING

Ms. Lekha Sreenivas conducted classes for women of ICDS, Mattancherry on pattern making and construction in the month of January, 2009 .The objective was to create awareness and teach them modern techniques in pattern making and construction and to provide technical up gradation to the women to keep them abreast with the competitive market. 

CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

 ·         Conducted health awareness programme for the women and children of ICDS, Mattancherry in the month of May, 2010 to give awareness about health and hygiene and various nutiritonal related diseases.

2008-2009

FASHION DESIGNING

Ms. Lekha Sreenivas conducted classes for women of ICDS, Mattancherry and KVMS, Karuvelipady on printing, colour  schemes and embroidery techniques  in the month of September, 2008 .The objective was to create awareness and teach them techniques of block printing using vegetable and wooden blocks, importance of colour schemes and different embroidery techniques.

CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

 ·         Conducted nutrition and health counseling classes for adolescents and adults to give awareness on various nutrition related topics at Munambam, Vypeen on 5^th May,2009.

2007-2008

FASHION DESIGNING

Ms. Lekha Sreenivas conducted classes for women of ICDS, Mattancherry and KVMS, Karuvelipady on advanced pattern making,in the month of August 2007.The objective was to create awareness on importance of Patterns and teach them techniques of Pattern Making.

CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

 ·         Conducted nutrition and health counseling classes for adolescents and adults to give awareness on various nutrition related topics at Vayalakadu, Aluva  on 7^th April, 2008.

2006-2007

FASHION DESIGNING

Ms. Lekha Sreenivas conducted classes for women of ICDS, Mattancherry and KVMS, Karuvelipady on 'Basic SAewing Techniques'in the month of october 2006.The objective was to create small scale women entrepreneurs.

CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

Conducted health awareness programme on nutrition significant diseases for women and children at Community hall of ICDS, Mattancherry in the month of May 2007.

Student Achievements:-

 ·         Ms.Elizabeth Jeena Roy and Ms.Saranya V.O. bagged first and third ranks in the M.G.university B.F.T.Examinations respectively in the year 2011.They were the students of first batch of B.F.T.

 ·         Final year BFT students bagged 2^nd position in the Fashion Show conducted in NIT, Kozhikode in the year 2011.

 ·         Ms.Rasna Thomas functioned as the Costume designer for the Calendar shoot of Miss.Kerala, 2010, and Fashion Calendar 2011 named SAVE PLANET. 

 ·         Ms.Dhanya.P is a well known fashion stylist in film field.

 ·         Ms.Dhanya.K.B and Ms.Saranya.T.S are functioning as costume designer and stylist for various ad films.  Ms.Dhanya.K.B is currently working as a lecturer in the Department of Fashion, Women's Study Centre.

 ·         Mrs.Nivethitha Sanjay is currently working as a lecturer in the Dept.of Fashion,Women's study centre.

 ·         Ms.Arya Appukkutan is currently doing a film project.

 ·         Ms.Tinu Rose Alex is a lecturer in the community college, Assumption College,Changanassery.

 ·         Ms.Neetha Joseph is functioning as visual Merchandiser in chain stores of Fab India,Chennai

 ·         Ms.Divya Mathew is working with Fab india as Store Merchandiser.

 ·         Ms.Ayana Appukuttan, Ms.Sruthy Unnikrishnan, Ms.Jovia mary Josephine, and Saranya.V.O. are functioning as Styling assistants.

       Mrs.Catherine Jose,Anne Joseph, Rose Mary, is owning a boutique and conducts fairs and exhibitions regularly.
