Mathematics and Statistics |
The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1948.
A high standard is maintained in the department when it comes to developing young minds. Efficiency in teaching couples with good moral conduct. The availability of the faculty to the students, even out of class hours is emphasized. The Department is also well equipped with new sophisticated devices for the betterment of the students in their learning process. The teachers are deputed to participate in orientation courses, refresher courses organized by universities, UGC, AIACHE etc.
The department caters to the over-all development of the students through counseling sessions, various competitions, seminars, personality development programmes and special tuitions for weak students. Many students of the department are members of NSS and NCC and take part in camps and other social welfare programmes. |

The formal inauguration of the Mathematics Association was on 1-08-2012. The association was inaugurated by Dr. Beena Job, Associate Professor, Department of English, St. Teresa's College, Ernakulam. Smt. Teresa Feletia, Head of the Department of Mathematics, St. Teresa's College presided the function. The report of the activities until that date was approved by the chief guest.

As part of the Independence Day Celebrations a class on 'Civic Sense' was conducted for the students of the department on 14-08-2012 (Wednesday) by Mr. Joshy P. V. , Professor,Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. The session was informative and it helped to increase civic sense among the students. |
· The Onam celebrations of the Mathematics Association was organized on 17-08-2012 .Onam message was given by Smt. Teresa Feletia, Head of the Department of Mathematics. All the students and teachers had dressed up traditionally for the event. A malayalimanka title competition and various games were organised to fill the day with joy and enthusiasm.
· The teachers of the department was honoured as part of Teacher's Day celebrations on 5-09-2012. Interesting puzzles and games made the function colourful.
· The Department of Mathematics organized a Mathematics Day 'ARITHMOI 2012' on 19-12-2012 .The function was inaugurated by Dr. Sabu, Associate Professor, Mathematics Department, St. Albert's College, Ernakulam. |
The inaugural function was followed by a quiz competition for various colleges guided by the chief guest Dr. Sabu, St. Albert's College, Ernakulam.
A talk on Srinivasa Ramanujan by Dr. Vijayakumar,Professor, Department of Mathematics, CUSAT began at 2.00pm. All the students of our Department attended the session |

Arcs and Curves , a geometric pattern making competition was conducted for the students of department on 22-01-2013 at 10.30 am
On behalf of the Republic Day celebrations the Mathematics Association conducted a quiz on 'India ' on 30-01-2013
An interesting class on Flower Arrangement was conducted for the third year students on 5-02-2013 by Dr. Leena Leon, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, St.Teresa's College. The class was interesting and it helped to increase the love towards nature

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES 2012-13 |

INAUGURATION
The extension work of Mathematics & Statistics Department was inaugurated on 1st August 2012 at Udayamperoor Parish hall. Prior to that a meeting was conducted on 6th July ,2012 by the Heads of the departments of Mathematics & Statistics Smt. Teresa Felitia P. A and Smt.Rosa K. J with the parish priest Rev.Fr.Sebastian Moonukootungal, Our Lady of Perpetual Health, Udayamperoor in his office . Five student representatives from the department and representatives of the Education Council of the parish also attended the meeting. In that meeting we discussed the plans of the extension activities for the academic year 2012-13.
The Head of the Mathematics Department Smt. Teresa Feletia P.A. felicitated the gathering. The Mathematics Association Secretary Ms. Nikitha J Bhaskar gave the programme chart of the extension activities planned for this academic year :

Socio-Economic Survey
A two day socio-economic survey was conducted on 17th and 18th of August 2012 at Udayamperoor.
The survey was conducted in collaboration with the Education Council of the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Health, Udayamperoor and the family unit wing of the same. The purpose of the survey was categorized as follows: Financial status of the families, Health Conditions of the individuals, Educational Quality of children.A questionnaire was prepared accordingly and 80 students along with 4 teachers from the Department conducted the survey.The survey was analysed by Prof . Jose M C, Dept of Statistics, S.B college , Changanacherry.After studying the result of the survey the department and the parish authorities decided to conduct free coaching classes for academicaly backward children, free medical camp for financialy backward group in collaraboration with Medical Trust Hospital, Ernakulam and a talk by an expert on general health problems of women like Blood sugar, Malnutrition, Breast Cancer etc.
As a first step we started the coaching classes. On 8/9/2012 , ten students and two teachers conducted the first class on Mathematics. According to the classes in which the students are studying they were divided into different sections. Special coaching classes on Mathematics for the school students at Udayamperoor were conducted so as to motivate and create interest in the subject |
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
On 18th December 2012 our Department celebrated Christmas in the House of Providence, an old age home at Kacheripady. The second year students and some teachers from Mathematics Dept took part with joy in the celebrations.
The students performed several cultural activities and games to entertain the inmates. We also distributed some basic amenities to them . |
Seminar on Effective Parenting and Flower arrangement
As part of TROP, on 13/01/2013 we conducted a talk on 'Effective Parenting and Flower arrangement' at Udayamperoor. The seminar was intended for the women of the locality. Dr.Leena Leon, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Home Science, St.Teresa's College was the resourse person. In her talk she emphasized on the subjects like Gender sensitization, Equal distribution of responsibilities to all family members and how to mould socially and morally enlightened citizens of tomorrow.
The second session was a flower arrangement demonstration class. In this she demonstrated different types of fresh flower arrangements. The session was very interesting and highly beneficial to all participants. She also discussed on various cooking recipes. |
Free Medical Camp
On 9/2/2012 , 90 students of the Mathematics Department along with Smt. Teresa Felitia and Ms Jean Mary Mycle visited the locality to distribute the notices about the details of the medical camp among the people.Smt Ajitha Salim, Udayamperoor Panchayath President, was also present and extended all help and cooperation to organize the camp
In collaboration with Medical Trust Hospital and the Care Udayamperoor, the Department of Mathematics conducted a free medical camp for the financially backward sections of Udayamperoor locality on 17/2/2012. The Free medical camp was conducted at Coir Society , Muthira parambu from 9.00am to 1.00pm. The features of the medical camp were
1. Expert medical check up in General Medicine and Ophthalmology.
2. Free medical check up.
3. Free Cataract surgery for deserving and financially backward patients.
The medical camp was inaugurated by Srimati. Ajitha Salim, Udayamperoor Panchayath President. Shri T. C Shibu, Block Panchayath Member and Shri T. P Ajimon, (CARE Secretary) spoke on the occassion. 141 patients attended the camp and were given free medical checkup |
