The Youth of today should take an oath to eradicate corruption from their home, said former president of India A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Quoting one of his experiences during his visit to a college, Kalam said about a question asked by a student named Bhavani. She asked me what role the youth can play for eradicating corruption. I replied like this -The government cant create great citizens. The shaping of one 's character takes place at home from where the corruption also starts. So the youth must protest against it from the roots. While talking about his vision of future India he said, India has everything, but need of the hour is youth with a will power to do things. With his free and fine talk, Kalam assumed the role of a teacher for Teresian's too, as he taught them the importance of a righteous heart. A righteous heart builds beauty in character, which brings up harmony in home and finally keeps the world peace, he said. Only three persons in the world can nurture a righteous heart-the father, the mother and the primary school teacher, he said. The two women who influenced him the most were his mother and M. S. Subhalakshmi, he said. He recollected the evening when he became the ardent fan of Subhalakshmi, after hearing Entharo mahanubhavulu during a concert in 1950. He shared his vision of an India in 2020. 'My dream country will ensure equalency of services to all sections, where the distance between the rural and the urban will be reduced and agriculture, industry and service sector work in harmony', he said. He wished that the country will be free from illiteracy and will ensure education to all, a country where atrocities against women and kids are nil, a peaceful, secure India. While talking about the present Indian women, who are marching ahead with men in all fields, he recited the poem by Subramania Bharathi written in 1910, about the emerging women of tomorrow. During the interaction session, when one of the student asked him whether there is life in another planet, his reply was this, 'The earth is rotating around the Sun which is a star. In the milky way, there are enormous number of stars and planets. So I think, we are not alone'.
