National Workshop on Econometrics
Appositeness of mathematics in different avenues of study and work especially in economics is of growing importance In Todays fast pace living style.A National workshop highlighting the importance and eminance of econometrics was oraganized by the Research and post graduate department of St. Teresa’s College on 1st march 2011.The Four day workshop inaugrated by Dr. D Rajasenan director , center for the study of social Exclusion and Inclusive policy, and International Centre for Economic Policy Analysis ( ICEPA,), CUSAT, spoke about the historical development of econometrics in the discipline of economics and it prominence in various other discipline, it drew participants comprising of research scholars and students from pioneered institutions.
The inagural ceremony of the National Workshop on econometrics organized by the Research and Post Graduate Department of Economics St Teresa's college , started at 9 am on 1-3-2011 at the college seminar hall. Dr. Helan . A.P( H.O.D.) welcomed the gathering and spoke about the challenges involved in accepting econometrics as a paper for the degree students. She also highlighted the role of econometrics in the future prospects for the students. Rev. Sr. Christabelle , Principal St . Teresa's College focused on the interesting interdisciplinary aspects of econometrics in the Presidential address. Dr.D. Rajasenan ( Director, Centre for the study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy ( ICEPA) and International centre for Economic Policy And Analysis ( ICEPA) , Cochin University Of Science And Technology) inaugurated the workshop and briefed on the historical development of econometrics in the discipline of economics. He compared econometrics to a big ocean and to understand it in depth one, need to know Mathematics, Statistics and economic theory. Dr. Thushara George faculty Dept Of Economics proffered the vote of thanks.
Dr. M. H. Suryanarayana (Prof.IGIDR) handled the sessions for first three days.Dr. K.R.Shanmugam ,Professor, Madras School Of Economics , Dr. M. Ramachandran , Professor , Department Of economics , Pondicherry University and Dr. T.M.Jacob , Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Nirmala College Muvattuphuzha handled the remaining sessions in the following days. Delegates from various parts of the country enriched the audience.
The valedictory ceremony of the workshop on econometrics on 6-3-2011 was presided over by Sr. Emeline CSST, Former Manager and Principal , St. Teresa's College. Rev. Sr. Emeline spoke about the increasing importance and role of mathematics in economic analysis. This simultaneously gives the message that the two subjects are interdependent and reveals why interdisciplinary research is gaining importance today. She distributed the certificates to the participants and the workshop formally came to an end after six successful days. Smt Sujatha R.E welcomed the audience and Dr Nirmala Padmanabhan delivered the vote of thanks . The delegates from various universities and institutions along with the research scholars and students have realized the possibilities of econometrics and as the organizers we believe that they are ready to plunge deeper and will bring laurels to our country in the process .
