MACRO GAIN THAN A MICRO PAIN

Amidst the controversial issue of the ASEAN Agreement, the III B.A students of the department of Economics of STC, Ekm organized an interactive session on 20th of Aug,09, presided over by Principal Rev Sr Christabelle.
The interactive session was moderated by Dr Thushara George, the Faculty member of the Department of Economics.
The students actively expressed their views regarding the FTA. The discussion highlighted the pros and cons of the agreement and its impact on the common man, Kerala, India and the World as a whole. The objectives and the intensions behind the FTA along with the benefits and drawbacks were also discussed.
As the famous saying goes, 'After every Storm there's a Calm', keeping this in mind students vibrantly participated and concluded the session optimistically hoping that the FTA becomes a favorable agreement for the developing countries to achieve greater heights and to emerge as an Economic Power
REFORMS AND EMERGING TRENDS IN INDIAN CAPITAL MARKET

The Department of Economics organized a one day seminar on Reforms and Emerging Trends in Indians Capital Market on 16th September 2009. Eminent academician and orator Dr. V.K Vijayakumar HOD, Department of Economics Srikrishna College Guruvayur, was the resource person. His lecture enlightened the audience on the history of the emergence of stock markets and the financial revolution it brought about. The basic structure of the capital markets in India and its changes since the reforms (1991) was also discussed. Economic crisis are most often signaled by the stock market fluctuations. The recession of 2008 and its relationship with the worldwide stock market fluctuations were also dealt with. A live example for online trading was also presented before the students. The practical aspects of stock market trading, its terms and conditions, role of SEBI and FPI were explained in a simple manner. Students were spell bound by the magic of stock markets - converting mere hundreds into billions and trillions.
Rev. Sr. Christabelle, Principal gave the presidential address, Dr. Tushara George, faculty Department of Economics welcomed the gathering and Dr. Sr. Teresa H.O.D Department of Economics Chaired the session. Ms. Sumaina Sageer Secretary Economics Association, delivered the vote of thanks
