 DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICSThe Department of Economics of St.Teresa's College is the oldest department, started in the year 1937. It has completed 70 years and celebrated its Sapthathi year in 2007-2008. The Department offers both an undergraduate and postgraduate course in Economics. The B.A Degree course in Economics (Main) was started in the year 1937,whereas Economics as a subsidiary for History main was started long back in 1927. The Postgraduate course was started in 1995.
Research Centre In 2010, the Department was elevated by the Mahatma Gandhi University as a Research Centre. The Centre is equipped with a computer lab to help data analysis, project design and presentations. The faculty consists of 8 members with 2 PhD and 3 MPhil Degree holders while another five are currently pursuing their doctoral research programme .The department has considerable student strength and has produced good results and several ranks at the university level.

-The Department of Economics is hosting the first ever MUN in Kerala , in collaboration with MUN India , a social enterprise for conducting National MUN's. The workshop will be held on September 17th 2011 at Audio Visual room, Arts Block.The purpose of this workshop is to give first time MUN ers a brief of idea of what a MUN is and teach them the basic skills of diplomacy.more

KOCHI MUN CONFERENCE 2011-SEPTEMBER 30th -OCTOBER 2nd 2011 _____________________________________________________________________________________
The Kochi Model United Nations 2011 IS a joint venture of Department of Economics, St.Teresa's college and Model United Nations India . The inaugural ceremony held at St.Teresa's college Elysium was a befitting start to the 3 day long endeavour aimed to popularize the concept of MUN.Veteran Journalist and novelist, Sree C.Radhakrishnan, in his inaugural address, spoke about the need for global democratic institutions like UN for solving world's problems. He emphasized that a paradigm shift both emotionally and intellectually is required for the management of resources. It is up to the youth to find effective solutions and ensure a world that is capable of meeting the needs of future generations. Former MP and expert on international relations and politics Dr.Sebastian Paul delivered the key note address.MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. TROP -PIZHALA A GREEN INITIATIVE
In June when the world reflects upon the importance of environment by planting saplings or through speeches, women of Pizhala have set an example by harvesting their vegetables cultivated using organic farming techniques. This harvest is part of the TROP,a project initiated by the Department of Economics of St.Teresa's College with the help of St.Francis Xavier Church, Pizhala.

TALK ON CAREER GUIDANCE
With an embolden interactive session on "career opportunity" for PG and UG students, the department of economics kick-started the very first event of the department activities, on 8th June 2011.In the morning session Dr.Jeemol Unni faculty of IRMA enunciated about various avenues open up to the students in sundry fields of study.
In the Afternoon session,Dr. Rakesh Basant faculty of IIM,Ahmadebad spoke and interacted with the students highlighting on internships, providing a real insight into today's educational scenario.
